Tiso Lecture Series 2006

The Tiso autumn/winter lecture series 2006 has just been finalised and is what we believe to be the best line up yet. This autumn we will bring you an exciting and varied programme of talks from some of the biggest names in climbing, exploration and adventure including Leo Houlding, Mick Fowler and Simon Yates. Full details of this year's series can be found below and tickets are now available.

All profits from Tiso lectures go to Scottish Mountain Rescue teams unless otherwise stated.

Also, look out for the Tiso sponsored E5 lecture series each winter at the George Square Lecture Theatre in Edinburgh.

COOL SKILLS FOR COLD CLIMBS IN NOVEMBER

Glenmore Lodge in conjunction with Tisos and The Ice factor will be hosting a series of events covering the specialist techniques and equipment for climbing steep waterfall ice in mid November 2006. All the sessions are run by Glenmore Lodge staff.

Nice Ice Baby

Based at the Tiso’s Great Outdoor Experience in Glasgow. Climbing steep water ice requires specialist equipment and techniques. This session outlines both practically and theoretically the equipment and techniques specific to climbing waterfall ice climbs such as found at Rjukan in Norway. Just to whet your appetite there will also be a short slide presentation on ice climbing in areas such as France, Canada, Switzerland, Colorado and Norway.

This will then be followed up with a session covering choosing equipment such as specialist ice tools, crampons, ice screws etc. Also there will be opportunities on the Tiso Outdoor Experience ice wall to be coached by Lodge instructors in some specific steep ice techniques.

Booking Information

Entry to the event is free, but spaces for the practical sessions after the lecture are limited to a total of 8 per session. To avoid disappointment please book your sessions with Tiso GOE in Glasgow.

TIME Sessions are at 1000Hrs to 1230Hrs; 1330Hrs to 1600Hrs.

A Waterfall Ice Primer
This all day session, based at the Ice Factor in Kinlochleven, will through personalised coaching, give you a quick start to developing the core techniques for climbing steep waterfall ice. In addition the session will cover setting up equipment such as specialist ice tools, crampons, ice screws etc. Use will be made of video for coaching and individualised feedback.

Booking Information
Cost for the session is £60 per person. This includes entry to the Ice Factor, and all technical equipment and instruction. There are only eight places available.

Club Coach Development Weekend



In August this year, the very first Club Coach Development Weekend was organised by the SCA in partnership with Glenmore Lodge. Some 48 coaches attended from 19 clubs throughout Scotland which led to some great networking with like-thinking club paddlers.

Many thanks to all those who made this event happen at all and then made it such a success.

The next Club Coach Development Weekend will be September 15/16 2007 again hosted by Glenmore Lodge.

So, club coaches get this date in your diary and watch out for the applicaion forms on the SCA website and in Scottish Paddler Magazine
