Visually Impaired hill walkers are inspirational

Friday, June 19, 2009

We have just hoted another week of hillwalking and navigation for the visually impaired. This has been going for many years and some early students return with inspirational stories.

Keith Salmon is one who attended a course in 2001. The fact that the MC of S and Glenmore Lodge were prepared to run courses for the visually impaired stopped him feeling guilty for enjoying the hills as much as anybody else. It also gave him the confidence to go walking knowing that there are ways for visually impaired people to navigate and keep safe and contribute with decision making on a hill day.

Keith's confidence spread into his art and has become a respected artist. This year we would like to send our congratuatlions to him for winning the 2009 Jolomo Award for Scottish Landscape Painting.

Keith came back and gave a presentation last year to the visually impaired hill walking course here at Glenmore Lodge. He was an inspiration.

For those of you who would like to be inspired by Keith see his website at www.keithsalmon.org
